How the COVID-19 Vaccine and Biologicals are Similar

Most everyone knows about DNA — deoxyribonucleic acid — and how it’s the ladder of life. It’s the program that tells your cells how to differentiate, how to become a person, how you behave and how you look.

But if you’ve been paying attention to the news at all, you’ve probably heard that Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are made of something very similar to DNA: RNA.

The big picture: in the biologicals industry, to get plants to mount a response you want, you have to deliver a biological that triggers plants to remodel their RNA expression profile such that new proteins are made, perhaps at different times, resulting in improved performance.
