Coming up with a recipe for hard chemistry and living biologicals to work in synergy can be challenging. A lot of chemistries are suspensions of active ingredients and that’s good… only if a microbe is co-formulated in that chemistry it won’t necessarily contact an agent that will kill it because those agents are not in a solution but rather are tiny particles or droplets floating around in the solution. On the other hand, that’s also bad because the “inert” chemicals used to keep the suspension uniform are in solution and are often of a class that disrupt biological membranes.
This approach is being taken by many players in this industry, including ABM, with a small number of successes to date. A second option is to deliver separately packaged formulations that can be blended at the point of treatment.
