Dan Custis, Co-Founder and CEO at ABM.
ABM is excited to be celebrating 20 years in business.
Twenty-one years ago, before ABM even existed, I got my start working on selling hard chemistry: inoculates, fungicides, seed treatments, insecticides and more. I’d have to go into the seed plant, calibrate the treaters and machinery for the customer, and I’d spend about half a day in the plant ensuring everything worked as it should.
I would always come out sneezing. Sneezing reds, blues, pinks, greens … Whatever the color of the treatment I was working with, that would be the color I’d sneeze.
I was tired of it and thought there had to be a better way to do this.
It wasn’t that these products weren’t safe, but I knew there had to be a better way to control the diseases and insects — I really wanted to develop companion products to go with the hard chemistry going on the seed.
That’s how ABM got its start. I was tired of sneezing!
The glue that holds our company together
This year, we’re celebrating 20 years of ABM, and while we’ve had ups and downs, I can say that it’s all thanks to one thing: our people.
Our team members, our customers and all the people who’ve helped us along the way have contributed to our success. Dr. David Kuykendal helped us develop our legume inoculants for soybeans. Dr. Gary Harman helped to develop our own strain of Trichoderma. From there, our team has taken charge and made us successful.
And that’s the secret to 20 years of ABM: our team.
